Hello, I’m Abstergo, and I’m an Altoholic

September 29, 2010 Leave a comment

Hello, I’m Abstergo, and I’m an Altoholic.

I’ve been playing Runes of Magic for quite a while now and I have 4 characters at least level 25, and 2 over 30… on both classes. One thing that’s nice is that from the knowledge I’ve gain through my various character I can now level a guy to 30 in no time.

Two weeks ago I decided to take a break from my Rogue/Scout to try out a tank. For your information, last time I had a tank It was in the ArchLord closed beta test, that’s almost 4 years ago. So I thought it was time to take a little break from the damage dealing classes and go for the tank, also I was tired of the squishy classes. I chose a Rogue as my secondary class to feel at ease a little, since I already know the class well enough.

Fast forward to one week ago. My knight/rogue is now 25/25, my cooking skill is at 22, my gathering are at 28, and my guild is close to being level 5. We can already smell the castle. Suddenly I had an epiphany. Why was I playing Rogue/Scout all this time ? I prefer the Knight/Rogue combination a hundred times more.

So here I am today, playing mainly on my knight/rogue, having more money, more developed skills, more fun overall.

Thank you!

Adventurous Crafter is a little over 1 year old. Yeah, I totally forgot about it, but the blog turned 1 in July. The blog gets a steady number of hits each days and it’s slowly rising, that’s nice, I like that.

Last year, at about the same date, Aion lunched and I was excited about it, going as far as buying the collector’s edition and starting a blog about my adventures in the day. On September 19 2009 the blog had it’s busiest day, counting a grand total of  114 unique hits.

For me that’s a huge number since it’s my first blog. One year later, here I am playing Runes of Magic and enjoying it way more than Aion and for cheaper. When I decided to include the patch notes on the blog I didn’t think it would bring people here, but yesterday was a record breaking day for Adventurous Crafter. 123 unique hits.

So, thank you to everyone who visits the blog. Let’s try to break this record and this time, let’s do it in the next 6 months!

RoM – Patch 3.0.4 – Secret of the Temple!

September 16, 2010 Leave a comment

On Thursday September 16 2010 the Frogster America will put online patch 3.0.4, Secret of the Temple.

On Thursday, Sept. 16, 2010, all U.S. Runes of Magic servers will be unavailable between 1 a.m PDT and 7 a.m. PDT.

Be prepared to receive our newest content patch: 3.0.4 – Secret of the Temple!

Your Runes of Magic Team

On the north american website there’s still no information about the patch, but on the European website we can read a little about it. There are some skill modification, the usual item updates, but the interesting part about the patch is the preview of the gold trading NPC that will be in Varanas. There’s one npc that will give diamonds for gold, and the other one will give gold for diamonds. There aren’t active yet, so we can only talk to them, but in the next patch, 3.0.5, the system should be fully implemented.

Runes of Magic Patch 3.0.4.2261
– The Mystery of the Temple -

New Features

  • New 6-player Instance „Raksha Temple“ found in the Northern Janost Forest, setting new challenges to level 60 players:
    • Encounter 7 brand new bosses by using either easy or normal mode!
    • First ever Hard Mode included in patch 3.0.5 to challenge the strongest heroes of Taborea!
  • Northern Janost Forest: Public Encounter
  • Guild Castle: Phase 3
    • New Guild Castle Quests available!
    • Additional mini games in the guild drill grounds
  • New Tutor System
    • When your character reaches level 30, he should go to “Lehman” who can be found in the Class Hall of Varanas from whom you can accept the quest “Great Instruction”.
When enough spirit points have been collected, speak to “Lehman” and select “Exchange” to obtain different types of ability points permanently.
  • New Profanity Filter functions
  • New World Boss in Ravenfell
  • In-game event: The Juice Festival
  • Reactivation of the gold trade and C.O.D function using the in-game mailbox
  • Preview of the Diamond / Gold trading NPCs, to be activated with Patch 3.0.5:
    • Can be found in the center of Varanas beside the mailbox
    • Agnes will be responsible for trading diamonds for gold
    • Cedrice will be responsible for trading gold for diamonds
    • Both NPCs can be talked to but will NOT yet offer their services. The reason behind this is due to the as yet unfinished technical aspects. Both NPCs will be linked to our database to follow all transactions by any character & account using the services.
The activation and return of the gold trade is currently planned for patch 3.0.5 after all open technical requirements have been finalized.
Additional information will be offered in a separate thread soon™.

Runes of Magic’s Item Shop

September 12, 2010 1 comment

I very well know that free to play game aren’t getting a lot of love, but bear with me here.

I’ve been playing Runes of Magic for quite a while now, as you may have noticed. RoM is a free to play game with an item shop where you spend real money to get ingame items, like mounts, jewel to upgrade your armor and weapons, cosmetic features, et cetera. To some people that’s the devil himself, for some other, like me, it’s just another way to make some money for the companies behind the game.

I’ve been playing Runes of Magic for the last 8 months. I started out last february and up until now I’ve spent a grand total of 15$, yep 15$. Quite often Frogster America will give us some discount on diamonds and items in the shop. Usually they go for the double diamonds weekend. The mounts, exp and tp potions, daily quest reset ticket are hits each time they go on sale.

What I like about the items shop in RoM is that you don’t absolutely have to buy from it to keep on moving on in the game. Sure, as you get to the higher levels you’ll have a harder time leveling and advancing, but with a little patience you can get enough diamonds for free to upgrade your gear even more. Between level 1 and 40 (since that’s the highest I’ve got) the only necessary things in the shop are the permanent mounts, that’s an absolute must.

For your information, 395 is about 20$ at normal price. I agree with you that’s wayyyy too much for a mount. But if you can wait a couple days you’ll be able to get one for about 200 diamonds. You just have to buy them when they’re at +100%.

Also, you can fill some poll to get free diamonds everyday at a rate of 16 per poll, that’s just another way to get more diamonds. Every week day there’s the Daily Offer and during the weekend it’s the weekend deal. Every week there’s a week long special too.

So there you have it, a basic run down of the item shop in Runes of Magic.

I think they did a pretty good job with the shop, but like anything else it could use a little tweaking with the prices, but as for now, I’m quite happy with the way I play the game. If you’re a casual player with a little money to invest it’s a pretty good game to go for.

Labor day result

rogue class

Well, Labor day weekend is now over in Runes of Magic and I managed to reach all of my goals, so it’s a rather good weekend for me. My three goals were:

  • Getting my Rogue to 40
  • Getting my Scout to 35
  • Making myself a nice set of armor

Before the start of the weekend my rogue/scout was 35/31, I decided to take advantage of the double exp to get to my scout to 35. Once that goal was reached, I decided to level my rogue side a little bit, but I didn’t think I’d reach 40 today. But with the help of daily quests and main quests I reached 40 rather easily.

After having achieved 2 of my 3 main goals I decided to try to get the hang of transmuting stuff. After some trials and error and the patience of one of my guild mate (Albiero) I managed to get myself some really nice level 35~36 armor. It was really a necessity now since I was still wearing my Top Secret Records set.

So overall it was a very nice weekend where everything went really good!

Labor Day Special in Runes of Magic

September 4, 2010 Leave a comment

In cased you might have lived under a tree or something, Monday is Labor Day (or International Workers’ Day), what does that mean? Yep, 3 days to relax and enjoy double XP/TP in RoM!

To commemorate Labor Day weekend, our alchemist did it again: With a special potion, they were able to boost monsters to increase their value to adventurers. To support our brave warriors on their steady way to level 60, those monsters will yield double talent points! Additionally the effect yields double experience by defeating monsters as well as finishing quests!

From Friday, Sept. 3, at 12 p.m. PDT and ending Tuesday, Sept. 7, at 11:59 p.m., you will receive double EXPfrom every slain monster and finished quest, as well as receiving double TP from defeated monster!

We have also brought back the Perfect Advanced Jewel bundles. The +12 Advanced Jewels, including the Nebulas, are all bundled with a free corresponding Perfect Advanced Jewel.

You can also pick up a Small Purified Package. These hold five purified fusion stones each, and now the packages stack!  So less work lugging around an inventory full of puries.

There are also two Labor Day Packages that contain an Adventurer Package and a Surprise Orb.  Each package has a mix of Advanced Jewels, Attribute Purifying Stones, Advanced Bindlifters and much more

All of these offers can be found in the Weekend Specials section of the Item Shop from Friday, Sept. 3, to Tuesday, Sept. 7.

So, some nice specials and double XP/TP, I’ll try to level my rogue/scout a little bit during that time for sure, and maybe get my healer to 28 or 29, with a couple Forsaken Abbey runs.

Enjoy your double XP/TP!

Edit: I forgot to mention that it’s double diamonds weekend too!

Starting Friday, Sept. 3, at 12 p.m. PDT and ending Tuesday, Sept. 7, at 11:59 p.m., all Diamond packages will grant you 100% more Diamonds — for free!*

Find out how many Diamonds you get with each Diamond package and see which package will give you the best deal by visiting the Recharge Diamonds page.

*The Diamond bonus will reflect in the package at time of purchase. This promotion applies to all payment methods except PlaySpan Marketplace and Pay by Mobile. Availability is subject to change.

Fallen Earth, another try

Fallen Earth Box Art September 2009

This week I took a little break from Runes of Magic and decided to give another try to the Fallen Earth 10 days Trial. Last time I did that was last November after my Aion deception. I love post-apocalyptic world and survival story, Fallen Earth does just that. I absolutely love how you can craft almost everything, that’s my cup of tea.

After the little tutorial at the beginning I decided to do some quest for a little boost in exp. First thing I notice is that the exp is a little slow, or I’m just doing it wrong, but it’s really not that bad since I enjoy gathering stuff and crafting it. In fact that may be the reason why the exp was slow…

Then I got my old nag and decided to go and explore that deserted area around Depot 66. Like I said earlier I really love the post-apocalyptic feels of everything in there, so I’m already sold. The combat is still a little slow for my taste, but I can deal with that. I still think the launcher could be better, the thing about “Collecting local information” each time you start the game, that irks me a little.

Also the developers like to put in here and there some touch of humor, like the Tip of the Day you can see on the screenshot below. That’s also a plus for me.

So all in all, there’s a big chance I subscribe to this game in the future. Right now they’re preparing some stuff to enhance the combat experience and overall ameliorate the gameplay. I hope everything turns out for the best.

Note the Tip of the day.

Sorry, no in game screenshots, I kind of forgotten, I was too absorbed in the game to think of taking screenshots.
